Policies Overview

1. Period of effectiveness
These policies were first articulated 15-July-2002, but have been in de facto effect since the opening of underbase.org in 1999.
2. Definitions
"Website" refers to the entire "underbase.org" domain, including third-level domains (eg "nsx.underbase.org" and "wow.underbase.org"). "Author" refers to Phillip Thorne. "Visitor" refers to each computer-browser-human chain that accesses Website via HTTP. "Third party" refers to anyone other than Author, Website, or Visitor.
3. Adherence to
All policies apply to the extent that Author remembers them. If Author forgets, Visitors are encouraged to remind him.
4. Changes
Changes to this policy will be reflected to this page, but may be made by Author without prior notice.

Usage Policy

1. Visitor logging
See Privacy Policy.
2. Cookies
See Privacy Policy.
3. Advertising
Website does not currently accept or display any sort of paid advertisement, in the form of banners, badges, or sponsored links. Unpaid product endorsements may be made at the discretion of the Author. Banners may be introduced in a future revision, but only in a tasteful and relevant manner, to direct Visitor to topically related pages within Website or on third-party sites.
4. Third-party sites
Website contains links to external, third-party websites and resource. These resources are not maintained by Author, and Author cannot vouch for their accuracy, timeliness, internal policies, or suitability for any particular Visitor -- but Author does show discretion where possible.

Privacy Policy

1. Visitor logging
Website keeps standard HTTP logs of Visitor activity. Logs are analyzed primarily to determine: times of peak usage, popularity of specific pages, and keywords for incoming search engine queries. The logs are maintained indefinitely. Visitor is merely a unique IP ("internet protocol") number of a computer, which is usually the server of an ISP ("internet service provider"). Unless a personal computer has its own IP number (eg on a college, corporate, or residential cable modem netowrk), the number cannot be correlated to a specific human.
2. Cookies
No "browser cookies" are currently used on Website. Cookies may be introduced in a future revision, to permit persistent customization of Visitor experience.
3. Changes
Changes to this policy will be reflected to this page, but may be made by Author without prior notice.

Copyright Policy

1. Original content
Original content on Website is copyrighted to and the property of Author. This includes but not limited to: text, graphics, animation, design, and computer code.
2. Third-party content: reference to
Whenever possible, the copyrighted works of Third Parties are cited as such; unless the work is so widely known that attribution is unnecessary, reference is so frequent that attribution is redundant, or reference is so small that attribution is bulky. Reference may include reviews, comparisons, lists, parody, and pastiche.
3. Third-party content: use of
Small portions of the copyrighted works of Third Parties may be included, under established United States policies of Fair Use. Whenever possible, they will be cited as such.
